Box Score SAN ANTONIO, Texas. – The St. Edward's women's soccer team claimed the Heartland Conference Championship by beating St. Mary's 2-0 on Monday afternoon at Sigma Beta Chi Field.
MEGAN ANDERSON scored both goals in the second half to lead the Hilltoppers to another win in the "Battle of the Saints." St. Edward's concludes the regular season with a 14-0-2 overall record and 9-0 record in the Heartland Conference.
The first half saw just six combined shot attempts, with the Hilltoppers outshooting the Rattlers 4-2 in the half. St. Mary's goalkeeper Alyssa Taramona saved an attempt by
RACHEL MURRAY in 12
th minute of action. Anderson missed high on an attempt in the 20
th minute and missed wide in the 22
nd minute.
LORRIE SANTOY started at goalkeeper for St. Edward's and made a save on attempt by Kristal Williams in the 31
st minute.
CAILYN TRAPANI had a shot saved by Taramona in the 43
rd minute. The match entered halftime without a goal by either team.
The Hilltoppers outshot the Rattlers 7-0 in the second half. St. Mary's goalkeeper Taramona made a total of five saves including on an attempt by
KATIE DONAHUE in the 47
th minute. Taramona made another save a minute later on an attempt by
JESSICA TRAVES.
St. Edward's was awarded a penalty kick in the 54
th minute of action. Anderson took the kick and put it past Taramona to give the Hilltoppers a 1-0 lead. This was Anderson's seventh goal of the year. Anderson had a header attempt two minutes later sail high.
Anderson connected on a header attempt by way of an assist from Traves in the 61
st minute to push the lead to 2-0. Anderson's eight goals on the year are the most on the team.

DANIELLE LICARIONE entered at halftime and did not face a single shot attempt in the second half. Alex Bsaibes tried to put the Hilltoppers up 3-0, but her attempt in the 77
th minute was saved by Taramona.
St. Edward's has piled up some impressive statistics on the year. The Hilltoppers have outscored their opponents 48-4 while outshooting their opponents 320-56. Individually,
LAUREN HELLER, Murray, and Trapani are tied for second in goals with seven.
Heller and Murray are tied for first in points with 21.

KATE ORKILD each logged over 1,000 minutes of playing time on the year.
St. Edward's will be back in action for the Heartland Conference Tournament beginning November 7. The Hilltoppers will host the tournament at Lewis-Chen Family Field. Second-seeded Dallas Baptist will take on #3 St. Mary's on Thursday at noon, while #1 St. Edward's plays #4 Newman at 2:30 p.m. Winners of each match will meet in Saturday's championship starting at 1 p.m. Live stats and video will be available through the Hilltopper Athletic website.
