COMMERCE, Texas –
ELISSA STANTON was at it again on Wednesday evening as she broke the school's hitting percentage record for the second time this season to lead St. Edward's to a 3-0 sweep of Texas A&M-Commerce at Lion Field House.
Stanton, who broke a 12-year old record with a .750 hitting percentage against Tiffin earlier this season, bested her own record against the Texas A&M-Commerce (3-15) with 13 kills in 17 attempts for a .765 hitting percentage.
With St. Edward's (11-2) clinging to an 18-15 lead in the first set,
LOREN KELLY registered two aces and
HANNAH RAUCH tallied two kills to lead the Hilltoppers to a 25-19 win. Set two saw St. Edward's trailing Texas A&M-Commerce late. With the home team ahead, 23-22,
TABITHA ELDER produced a kill and the Lions had a hitting error.
JESSICA MORALES finished off the set with an ace. Trailing 14-13, Stanton had two kills to spark the Hilltoppers in set three, as they ran away with it, 25-20.
"Road games where you travel there and back on the same day are usually tough," head coach Sean Donahue said. "It was nice to see the team step up to the challenge."
MARY KOEHLER tallied nine kills and seven digs, while Rauch ended with eight kills of her own. Kelly helped out with 20 assists and led the team with three service aces, while
KELLY JIMENEZ led St. Edward's with 14 digs.
The Hilltoppers outhit the Lions with a .305 team hitting percentage compared to just .167 for Texas A&M-Commerce.
St. Edward's will be back in action Saturday when they host Texas A&M-Kingsville. First-serve is set for 1 p.m. at the Recreation and Convocation Center. Live video and stats will be available on the Hilltopper Athletic Website.
