Lindsey finding form as Hilltoppers defeat Concordia, 99-82

AUSTIN, Texas - The St. Edward's Men's Basketball team looked sharp on the offensive end Thursday night at the Recreation and Convocation Center, falling one point shy of the century mark, and defeating cross town rival, Concordia, 99-82.

Concordia (1-2) hung tough early, as they opened up a 6-2 lead over the undefeated Hilltoppers. It was a back-and-forth affair in the first half as the teams traded buckets for the majority. With four minutes left in the first half and the Hilltoppers leading 42-39, St. Edward's began to pick up its intensity.

Back-to-back buckets from Frankie Mgboulu and TREY LINDSEY would spark the Hilltoppers . St. Edward's would feed off that energy and open up 54-45-halftime lead. At the break, Lindsey had himself 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting.

The second half would be all St. Edward's (4-0). The men looked to be clicking on all cylinders, scoring the second half's first eight points and garnering a commanding 17-point lead two minutes into the half.

Over the remainder of the half St. Edward's would display a well-balanced attack. Six Hilltoppers would score in double figures on the night, including: RAMIR BURTON (14), JOHN GRAMLICH (14), Lindsey (18), HARLEY NUSSMAN (13), and Mgbolu (10).

In route to its 99-82 victory, junior, Lindsey seemed to shine bright on the night.

The transfer from Louisiana-Monroe suffered a preseason injury last season, which kept him sidelined for the year. Lindsey, who has battled his way back, seemed to be finding his form tonight, as he tallied 18 points, three rebounds, and two steals.

On the young season, Lindsey has averaged 10 points per game on 65 percent shooting; three rebounds per contest and has been a critical part of St. Edward's unblemished start.

When asked about his talented junior, head coach Andre Cook said, "We are all thrilled that Trey is back playing. He has worked extremely hard with our training staff and it is nice to see him playing basketball with a smile on his face."

The Hilltoppers will look to keep its perfect record alive when they take on Trinity Tuesday. Tip off is set for 7 p.m. and live video and stats will be available through the St. Edward's Athletic Website.
