Box Score AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward's softball team recorded two shutout victories on Friday, the first day of the St. Edward's Softball Invitational. The Hilltoppers benefited from outstanding performances by starting pitchers SARAH DEBROW and KATELYN KLUG. First, Debrow led the St. Edward's to a 1-0 win over Chadron State. Next, Klug led the Hilltoppers to a 4-0 win over Regis.

St. Edward's (8-4) scored the only run of its game against Chadron State in the second inning. CAITIE CARNEY got things started with a single down the left field line. A single by KACI OLSON through the right side advanced Carney to third. Next, ALEX MAYFIELD's hit was mishandled by the Chadron State shortstop, which allowed Carney to score an unearned run.

Neither team could get much going offensively as both teams managed just four hits each. A. Mayfield added another hit in the fifth inning on a bunt single to third base.

Chadron State put two runners on in the seventh inning, but Debrow was able to get Taylor Cobb to fly out for the final out. Debrow (4-3) struck out 10 batters in a full game's work.

In game two, St. Edward's beat Regis, 4-0. The Hilltoppers put up two runs in the first inning. CYDNEY ERVIN started things off with a single to right center. A single by Kendal Lucas advanced Ervin to second. Next, LAUREN BRODE was hit by a pitch and St. Edward's had the bases loaded. Carney continued her strong play with a double to right field to bring home Ervin and Lucas.

The Hilltoppers pushed the lead to 4-0 in the sixth inning. Brode began the inning with a single to center field. Gabriella Macias pinch ran for Brode and stole second. Carney walked to get on first. Both runners advanced a base off a sacrifice bunt by KP PERCH. Pinch hitting for Olson, FAITH ROBERTS hit a double to the center field fence that brought home Carney and Macias.

Klug ended any chances of a Regis comeback in the seventh inning. A fly out by Regis' Alyssa Finger was the final out of the game. Klug pitched a very efficient game to improve to 4-1.
