Hilltoppers win home tournament for second straight victory

AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward's women's golf team edged Indianapolis by one stroke to bring home the championship at the St. Edward's Invitational Tuesday afternoon at Grey Rock Golf Club. The Hilltoppers shot a team total of 623 for the two-day event.
 
Head Coach Jennifer McNeil commented after the win, "I'm very happy to have pulled out a win today. We definitely did not bring our best game to the course but we fought and scraped our way through. This week was a total team effort and I'm proud of all 10 of my players."
 
HALEY HAUGHT paved the way once again for St. Edward's finishing first on her team and sixth individually amongst the field. Haught finished the tournament shooting a two-day total of 153, that score included an 80 on the second day of play. She finished tied for third in the par-5 scoring category and finished the tournament with 22 pars.
 
MARISSA BRANSBURG also shot an 80 on the second day of action and finished two strokes behind Haught and tied for a ninth place finish individually. Bransburg completed the tournament with a two-day total of 155.
 
RYANNE HADDOW was the only Hilltopper to improve her score on a day where the conditions weren't favorable. Haught shot a 77 during the second round and finished two strokes behind Bransburg with a 157 for the tournament and tied for a 19th place finish. She made 21 pars during the 36-hole tournament.
 
ALYSSA SMITH followed the trend of shooting an 80 during the second round. Smith concluded the tournament one stroke behind Haddow and finished tied for 21st. TAYLOR MORENO finished the tournament with an 83 for day two of play and a 164 total for the tournament. Moreno finished tied for 33rd.
 
The St. Edward's second team made some noise at their tournament and finished in the 11th spot as a team. ISABEL MORALES led the team and finished tied for 30th. Morales was also on the short list of par-5 scoring averaging a 5.33 score. Other members of the second team include, JESSICA TAMEN, LIZA VASSALLI, BRIANNA VOGEL, and TAYLOR DILLINGHAM.
 
St. Edward's finished the tournament in the top five of every scoring category for the tournament. The Hilltoppers led in par-4 scoring with a 4.42 average. St. Edward's ended the tournament in the third spot in birdies (12), pars (92), and par-5 scoring average (5.57). The Hilltoppers came in the fourth spot in par-3 scoring with a 3.35 average.
 
The Hilltoppers will be back on March 3-4 at the Peggy Kirk-Bell Invitational hosted by Rollins College. The two-day event will be held at the 6,474-yard par-71 Tuscawilla Country Club in Winter Park, Fla.
