Box Score SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – The St. Edward's softball team dropped a tight 2-1 decision to #7 Angelo State Friday evening at Mayer Field in the opening round of the 2014 NCAA South Central Regional #2.
St. Edward's starting pitcher
SARAH DEBROW was outstanding in the circle for the visitors, allowing just four hits. The only problem was that two of the hits by Angelo State (40-14) were home runs hit by Rachel Moore and Morgan Spearman in the third inning.
St. Edward's (33-25) had chances to put itself back in the game, but couldn't break through early. In the third inning,
CYDNEY ERVIN led off with a double, however, she was doubled off trying to advance to third base on a groundout. Finally in the sixth inning, the Hilltoppers got on the scoreboard. With runners at second and third base, pinch hitter
LAURA ALVARADO singled to the secondbaseman to score
ALEX MAYFIELD and cut the lead in half, 2-1. St. Edward's then had runners at first and third, but could not bring another runner home. In the top of the seventh, St. Edward's got its leadoff hitter on, but the RamBelle defense tightened up and left the runner stranded to end the game, 2-1.
Debrow (19-12) was the hard-luck loser, finishing the game allowing two runs on four hits, while walking two and striking out three.
St. Edward's will be back in action Saturday when they take on Cameron. First-pitch is set for 4:30 p.m. in San Angelo. Live stats and FREE live video will be available on the RamBelle Athletic Website. Check the
