AUSTIN, Texas – The 15
th-ranked St. Edward's Men's Soccer team scored early and often Friday afternoon in an 8-0 rout of crosstown rival Huston-Tillotson.
It did not take long for St. Edward's (3-0-2) to flex its muscles. In the third minute of action, senior forward
KYLE RUCK struck gold. He took a set play cross from
KARL DE ZOETEN and found the back of the net. Ruck would assist on the next goal as
ADAM BONVILLE scored in the 10
th minute.
DYLAN ARMSTRONG and
DRAKE LOVELADY would also score in the first half, as the Hilltoppers would take a 4-0 lead into intermission.
In the second half, St. Edward's again applied pressure to the Huston-Tillotson back line.
SAMUEL JACKSON scored his second goal of the season just six minutes after the break.
PABLO COVARRUBIAS and
RYAN DENDINGER both scored one minute apart starting in the 66
th minute, and
JOSH TAYLOR capped off the scoring with a goal in the 90
th minute. Taylor also led the team with two assists on the day.
St. Edward's outshot the Rams, 28-9. However, six of the nine Huston-Tillotson shots were on goal and the Hilltopper defense was up to the task. The Hilltopper tandem of
KEVIN LEIB and
WILLIAM TUFFIN combined for six saves on the afternoon.
St. Edward's will be back in action Sunday when they host Ouachita Baptist. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. at Lewis-Chen Family Field. Live coverage can be found on the Hilltopper Athletic Website.
