FORT SMITH, Ark. – St. Edward's University Volleyball continued its three-game road swing on Saturday with a 3-0 loss to UA Fort Smith, the number one team in the Heartland Conference.
Top performers on the day for the Hilltoppers included:
MIKAYLA GRILL with a team-high nine kills,
AVALON FRANTZ who dished out 11 assists, and
MORGAN BECKHAM with 16 digs. The loss moves the Toppers to 4-9 overall and 2-3 in the conference. With the win, UA Fort Smith improves to 10-3 and 5-0.
Game one proved to be St. Edward's best hitting match of the night as the visiting team posted a .200 attacking percentage. However, a more efficient Lion attack overwhelmed the Hilltoppers and the visitors would fall 25-17.
The Toppers were able to limit UA Fort Smith to a .196 attacking percentage in game two, but could not capitalize on their defensive success. A final score of 25-15 would give the home team a 2-0 advantage heading into the intermission. In game three St. Edward's could not slow down the Lion's momentum, falling 25-9.
Head coach Mary DeJute and her team look to bounce back against Dallas Baptist on Tuesday, September 29 in Dallas. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. with live stats and video available online at GoHilltoppers.com.
