FULL RESULTSSEGUIN, Texas - St. Edward's University Cross Country started its season with a bang as both the men and women took first place in the team standings at the Texas Lutheran Invitational on Saturday.
KATY GILLIS also took home the individual championship on the women's side.
The women's score of 21 was 16 points better than any other team in the women's open division. On the men's side, St. Edward's posted a mark of 40 that tied the team with host, Texas Lutheran.
"The men and the women both did such a great job today," said head coach Dave Chandler following the races. "It was an amazing experience to start the season off with a win. We will use what we learned today to help us adapt and improve going forward. I look forward to next Saturday when we will race our entire team."
In addition to Gillis's individual title, St. Edward's women also took three more spots in the top 10 as
ALYA SALEM cross third,
HOPE RYAN took seventh, and
PAMELA CISNEROS took 10
th. Alex Villafranca,
MELISSA POLLO, and
ANDI THEIS rounded out the Hilltopper's top seven.
On the men's side Gabe Monticure finished fourth to lead the Hilltoppers.
HOGAN DAUGHTERS cross eighth and Nick Zuniga just missed the top 10, finishing 11
th.
EVAN HERRING,
NICK LEITGEB, and Will Tanner filled out the Topper's team of six.
Coach Chandler and the St. Edward's runners return to the course on Saturday, September 12 in San Antonio at Our Lady of the Lake.
