Lindsey pushes Hilltoppers to 72-64 win at Panhandle State

GOODWELL, Okla. – Senior forward TREY LINDSEY scored a season-high 18 points to lead St. Edward's past Panhandle State, 72-64 Thursday evening at Oscar Williams Fieldhouse.

Lindsey was 8-of-11 from the floor, which included a three-pointer. He also pulled down four rebounds. FRANKIE MGBOLU registered 14 points of his own, while AUBRIE KING added 10 points off of the bench.

"I am happy for Trey," head coach Andre Cook said. "He has been hampered by some foul trouble lately. He was able to get a solid run tonight and he took advantage of it."

Panhandle State (8-9, 1-8 HC) opened the game on an 11-8 run in the first five minutes of play. Antonio Manns, Jr. had nine of those points for the Aggies.

Lindsey produced back-to-back buckets to give St. Edward's (13-4, 6-3 HC) back the lead. The lead would expand to 19-15 after a three-point play from SEAN WATKINS and two free throws by RAMIR BURTON.

With less than 10 minutes to play in the first half, AUBRIE KING nailed two shots from behind the arc in succession to push the lead to 25-18 with 8:08 remaining. The lead would stay put the rest of the half as St. Edward's took a 39-31 advantage into the break.

In the second half, the Hilltopper lead would fall to four points on four occasions but each time St. Edward's had an answer for the Aggies. Leading 54-50, with 8:04 remaining, Lindsey led the Hilltoppers on a 10-1 run over the next four minutes to ice the game. The last two points came on a dunk from Lindsey.

Mgbolu was key in the late stages of the game. The senior point guard scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half.

"This is never an easy trip," Cook said. "OPSU is much improved and they are tough to beat in Goodwell. We made some big plays when we had to. Always good to get a road win."

St. Edward's will be back in action Saturday when they travel to take on Lubbock Christian. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. at the Rip Griffin Center. Live video and stats will be available on the Chap Athletic Website.
