AUSTIN – The No. 3-ranked St. Edward's men's soccer team broke out of its offensive funk for a 6-0 victory Saturday afternoon against Oklahoma Christian at Lewis-Chen Family Field.
With the victory, St. Edward's keeps pace with West Texas A&M for second place in the Heartland Conference with two matches to play. The top two seeds in the regular season will receive byes for the opening round of the Heartland Conference Tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The St. Edward's offense wasted little time attacking the Oklahoma Christian goal. The Hilltoppers scored three goals within seven minutes of each other, with the home team owning a 3-0 advantage by the 18th minute.
- Juniors SAMUEL JACKSON and GRANT MOBLEY notched the first two goals in the 11th and 17th minute, respectively. In the 18th minute, sophomore DYLAN ARMSTRONG picked up a penalty kick goal.
- Freshman PARKER FYFE capped off the first-half scoring, tallying his second goal of the season in the 40th minute.
- St. Edward's kept its foot on the gas in the second half with Armstrong and Fyfe scoring their second goals of the match.
HILLTOPPER NOTES
- St. Edward's outshot Oklahoma Christian 25-3, and sent a season-high 17 shots on goal.
- The Hilltoppers now have six players with at least three goals.
- The six goals were the most scored this season for St. Edward's.
- The Hilltoppers increase their lead in the series history to 8-1 and have won six straight matches.
