AUSTIN, Texas – For the second-straight meeting, St. Edward's took down St. Mary's with another hard-fought 1-0 victory Thursday at Lewis-Chen Family Field.
With the victory, St. Edward's (14-2-1, 10-2-1 HC) keeps pace with West Texas A&M for second place in the Heartland Conference with one match to play. St. Edward's owns the tiebreaker with its 1-0 win earlier this season over the Buffs. The top two seeds in the regular season will receive byes for the opening round of the Heartland Conference Tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- From the opening whistle, St. Edward's put pressure on St. Mary's and would not let up.
- After six shots and five cornerkicks in the first 15 minutes couldn't produce a St. Edward's goal, the home team finally found its mark in the 18th minute.
- Junior GRANT MOBLEY tallied his team-leading seventh goal of the year on assists by senior JOSH TAYLOR and sophomore DYLAN ARMSTRONG.
- The defense took it from there, holding the Rattlers to just three shots.
HILLTOPPER NOTES
- St. Edward's increases its lead in the series history with St. Mary's to 43-15-7. They are also winners of 11-straight matchups.
- With the shutout, St. Edward's reduces its goals-against average to a nation-leading 0.35. The Hilltoppers also lead the country in shutout percentage at 0.71. They own 12 shutouts in 17 contests.
- The Mobley goal was the third game-winner for the Deer Park, Texas native.
