DALLAS – A penalty kick goal and a masterful defensive effort led St. Edward's to a 1-0 victory Saturday over Dallas Baptist at the Patriot Soccer Field.
 
With the victory, St. Edward's (15-2-1, 11-2-1 HC) finishes the regular season in second place in the Heartland Conference. The Hilltoppers will receive a bye into the semifinals of the conference tournament being held next weekend at Midwestern State.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• The first half had St. Edward's in the Dallas Baptist end almost the entire time. The Hilltoppers could not tally a shot on goal, as the game was scoreless at the break.
• Five minutes into the second half, Dallas Baptist was whistled for a foul in its own box to set up a St. Edward's penalty kick. Sophomore DYLAN ARMSTRONG calmly converted the free kick for a 1-0 Hilltopper lead.
• The defense held tight the rest of the way as the lone goal held up for the road shutout.

 
HILLTOPPER NOTES

• The Hilltoppers outshot Dallas Baptist, 21-1, including nine on goal.
• St. Edward's has won all nine meetings in the series history against Dallas Baptist. They have outscored the Patriots in those nine matches, 30-1.
• With the shutout, St. Edward's reduces its goals-against average to a nation-leading 0.33. The Hilltoppers also lead the country in shutout percentage at 0.72. They own 13 shutouts in 18 contests.

The Hilltoppers will be back in action Friday at 5 p.m. when they open the Heartland Conference Tournament in the semifinal round. They await the winner of the Tuesday match between West Texas A&M and Eastern New Mexico. The tournament will be held in Wichita Falls, Texas.
