TURNING POINT
-After a scoreless first half that saw most of the action stay near the midfield stripe, freshman
DANIEL WAKEHAM took a quick pass from junior
JULIAN SANCHEZ off a cornerkick in the 48
th minute. Wakeham took two dribbles to the top of the box and ripped a knuckle ball to the far post for his first goal as a Hilltopper.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Neither team registered a shot on goal in the first half.
-The Dustdevils had two great opportunities to tie the match down the stretch.
-In the 83
rd minute, Hilltopper goalkeeper
KEVIN LEIB was able to turn away a shot by Eduardo Gonzalez.
-The save of the match came in the 88
th minute, when Dustdevil Ryan Hodgson collected the ball at the penalty spot. The forward lifted a shot to the right post but Leib made a diving save with his fingertips to keep the 1-0 lead.
HILLTOPPER NOTES
-St. Edward's outshot TAMU-International, 9-7, but it was the Dustdevils that had more on goal, 2-1.
-The victory increases the Hilltopper lead in the series to 15-4-4. They have now won eight-straight matches in the series.
-St. Edward's still leads the South Division of the Heartland Conference with 18 points, while St. Mary's is in second with seven points.
