HOW IT HAPPENED
-In set one, a service ace from Beckham gave the Hilltoppers a 7-5 lead. However, a 6-1 run from the Lady Chaps erased the lead and gave the visitors a set-one victory.
-St. Edward's trailed 17-9 in the second set before
KATE HENDRIX and Parker teamed up on a block to spark a 7-2 run for SEU.
-Three-straight kills from
KATIE MARTIN put SEU up 24-23, and then she teamed up with Parker on a double block to even the match at one set apiece.
-No team led by more than four points in the third set. It was a double block from Hendrix and Parker, followed by a kill from Parker that pushed St. Edward's to a 2-1 lead in the match.
-
KATE HENDRIX sparked a 5-0 run in the fourth set to put the Hilltoppers ahead 11-9. Unfortunately a 10-2 run from the Lady Chaps turned the tide and forced a fifth game.
-The fifth was another back-and-forth affair until a
TABITHA ELDER kill, and
MADISON MCCLURG service ace put St. Edward's ahead, 10-7.
-Hendrix sparked another 4-0 run to give SEU a 14-9 advantage, and all but clinch the victory.

QUOTE FROM HEAD COACH MARY DEJUTE
"Defense, it kept us in the game. Our outside hitters really came through today, and
MIKAYLA PARKER did a real nice job, and
MORGAN BECKHAM in the back line was so sound defensively. Not a whole lot gets by her. It was relentless pursuit of the ball on defense."
