LAKEWOOD, Colo. –
St. Edward's tried for a second straight comeback victory but fell short Saturday in a 78-71 loss to Colorado Mines in the Heartland/Rocky Mountain Conference Challenge.
St. Edward's (1-1) erased a 16-point, fourth-quarter deficit to send the game into overtime but was outscored 11-4 in the extra period.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- St. Edward's shot 28 percent from the field in the first half to fall behind by nine at the break.
- Down 16 points with 8:05 remaining in the fourth quarter, St. Edward's used a 14-0 run to cut the lead to 57-55 with 4:52 on the clock.
- After Colorado Mines made 1-of-2 free throws with 14 seconds remaining, senior SHAKERA BARNES drove the lane and scored with 1.2 seconds left to send the game into overtime.
- In overtime, it was all Orediggers. St. Edward's was 1-for-10 from the floor.
HILLTOPPER NOTES
- MADISON SCHENCK scored in double figures for a second straight game with 13 points.
- Barnes registered a career-high nine assists.
- St. Edward's tallied a season-high 11 three pointers.
- This was the first meeting between the two schools.
