CANYON, Texas – Cold shooting led St. Edward's Friday evening to a 61-36 loss to No. 3 West Texas A&M at the First United Bank Center.
The Hilltoppers were held to a season-low 22 percent shooting as they dropped their third straight.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- St. Edward's jumped out to a 7-4 lead three minutes into the game, but West Texas A&M held the Hilltoppers scoreless the rest of the first quarter to take a 13-7 advantage.
- The Lady Buffs used an 8-0 opening run in the second quarter to bust open the contest.
- At the break, West Texas A&M led 33-16 after shooting 54 percent.
- In the third quarter, St. Edward's briefly solved the West Texas A&M defense, outscoring the Lady Buffs 9-2 in the first three minutes of action. It was short-lived, as the home team ended the quarter on a 17-7 spurt for a 52-32 lead.
- The St. Edward's offense went cold in the fourth quarter scoring only four points.
HILLTOPPER NOTES
- Freshman LEXI CUNNINGHAM led the Hilltoppers in scoring with eight points while junior SAUNDRA GUILLORY pulled down a career-high seven rebounds.
- Senior SHAKERA BARNES dished out a team-high four assists. She has led the Hilltoppers in assists in all four games. She is averaging 7.3 assists per game.
- West Texas A&M has won all six meetings in the series history with the Hilltoppers.

"West Texas A&M is a good team. You don't get ranked third if you are not. I thought defensively we did a much better job executing. We gave them very little and made them earn what they got. The biggest concern tonight was our inability to score."
