COMMERCE, Texas – Senior
KHIANI CLARK registered a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double Sunday, but it was not enough as St. Edward's women's basketball fell 68-56 to Texas A&M-Commerce.
Clark's numbers were tops for the Hilltoppers in both categories. Senior
SHAKERA BARNES was the second-leading scorer with nine points, and led the team with four assists.
The Hilltoppers fall to 1-4 on the season. Texas A&M-Commerce improves to 3-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- LEXI CUNNINGHAM and MADISON SCHENCK used a 3-pointer apiece to keep it close in the first quarter.
- FAIREN SUTTON sparked a 7-0 run to start the second quarter, giving St. Edward's a 17-14 lead.
- A layup from Schenck with 1:07 remaining gave the Hilltoppers a 26-22 halftime lead.
- In the third quarter, St. Edward's and Texas A&M-Commerce combined to score 47 points.
- The Hilltoppers entered the final period leading 44-41, but the Lions outscored the visitors 27-12 to clinch the win.
HILLTOPPER NOTES
- The Hilltoppers are now 1-4 all-time against the Lions.
- Clark now has two double-doubles this season.
- Both teams recorded three blocks each, and the Hilltoppers bested the Lions in steals (6-5).
