LA JOLLA, Calif. – St. Edward's men's soccer saw its postseason run come to an end Friday in a 3-2 loss to Midwestern State in the South Central Regional final.
Sophomore
DYLAN ARMSTRONG scored both of the Hilltoppers' goals.
St. Edward's closes its season 18-3-1, marking the most wins in program history. Midwestern State improves to 18-3-1 and advances to the national quarterfinals Sunday against West Region champion UC-San Diego.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Armstrong put St. Edward's up 1-0 in the 34th minute on a bending shot to the left of the goalkeeper.
- Midwestern State used a header from Pierre Bocquet off a corner in the 56th minute to tie the game.
- A goal from Christian Okeke in the 66th minute gave the Mustangs a 2-1 lead.
- The Mustangs clinched the win with a hard strike from Flavio Guzman in the 73rd minute.
- St. Edward's pulled within one in the 78th minute when Armstrong chipped in a cross from JACK BLANTON.
HILLTOPPER NOTES
- The Hilltoppers are now 6-28-4 all-time against Midwestern State.
- Armstrong scored a total of four goals in three matches against the Mustangs this season.
- A total of 13 matches this season were decided by one goal or less for St. Edward's.

"I think the overall body of work was very good, but we're disappointed that we dropped a couple games in conference which kept us from winning the regular season title. Overall it was the most successful season in St. Edward's history. Today we didn't press very well like we normally do, and for a majority of the game Midwestern State was up for it."
