CANYON, Texas –
St. Edward's volleyball scored first on Friday afternoon, but the Hilltoppers could not get past West Texas A&M, falling 3-0 on the road.
Sophomore
KATE HENDRIX led the offense with 10 kills, but the highlight was
CARLIE SHMIDL. The freshman recorded a career-high five kills with three digs and two block assists.
The loss drops St. Edward's to 10-16, while West Texas A&M improves to 15-12 overall. It was the final nonconference match of the Hilltoppers season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A kill from MADISON MCCLURG made it 6-7 in the first set, but a 6-0 run by the Lady Buffs put the game out of reach.
- Set two featured multiple four-point runs for West Texas A&M as it won handily 25-13.
- The final set was a battle that featured 10 lead changes.
- Hendrix used a kill and triple block with MIKAYLA GRILL and Shmidl to give St. Edward's a 12-11 lead.
- Freshman HAILEY REIER served a 5-0 run to put the Hilltoppers on top again, 17-15.
- It was two kills and a block by the Lady Buffs to end the match, 28-26.
HILLTOPPER NOTES
- St. Edward's is now 1-13 all-time against West Texas A&M.
- Every eligible player saw playing time against the Lady Buffs.
- Shmidl made her second start of the season and now has 22 kills as a freshman.
