Offense Keeps Rolling in 90-76 Win Over Texas Lutheran

St. Edward’s tops 90-point mark for fourth straight game

AUSTIN, Texas – Senior RAMIR BURTON scored 13 of his game-high 19 points in the second half Thursday to lead St. Edward's to a 90-76 win over Texas Lutheran at the Recreation and Convocation Center.

Five Hilltoppers scored in double figures for St. Edward's (8-4) as SEU scored at least 90 points for a fourth straight game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams traded baskets for the first 14 minutes of action. Senior ETHAN GILBERT helped St. Edward's gain a 42-35 halftime lead as he scored five points down the stretch. This included a three-point play with three seconds remaining.
  • In the first three minutes of the second half, St. Edward's outscored the visitors with an 8-0 run. Gilbert knocked down two three-pointers to lead the spurt.
  • Even with St. Edward's keeping their double-digit lead, Texas Lutheran fought back with some timely shooting. Joshua Thompson's three-pointer at the 3:50 mark cut the Hilltopper lead to 78-70.
  • However, great clock management and solid defense by St. Edward's kept the Bulldogs at bay.

HILLTOPPER NOTES
  • The five players in double figure scoring matched a season high for St. Edward's.
  • Both Gilbert (13 points, 11 rebounds) and CORY MCKENDREE (17 points, 10 rebounds) registered double-doubles.
  • Senior JOHN GRAMLICH continues to roll as he tallied 18 points. In his last three games, the guard has averaged 22.7 points per contest.
  • This is the first time since the 2000-01 season that the Hilltoppers have scored 90-plus points in four straight games.
  • St. Edward's increases its lead to 60-55 in the all-time series. They have now won five straight.

QUOTE BOARD: HEAD COACH ANDRE COOK
"I feel like we can score. I just want to see us be more consistent on the defensive end. If we are going to be good this year we are going to have to defend. Our next 20 games are going to be battles. We will need to continue running good offensive and buckle down on defense to perform well."

St. Edward's hits the road Saturday for a matchup with Texas A&M-Kingsville. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the Steinke Center. Live video and stats will be available at www.GoHilltoppers.com.
