EDMOND, Okla. – For a third-straight game, St. Edward's outhit Oklahoma Christian at the plate. The only problem was that the Eagles outscored the Hilltoppers for the second-straight game to take a 6-3 win in game three of the series. That win also gave the Eagles the series victory, and sole possession of third place. St. Edward's drops into a tie for fourth place with Texas A&M-International in the Heartland Conference standings.
Both teams were held scoreless through the first two innings before St. Edward's (20-20, 10-8 HC) broke through in the third inning.
MEGAN HOFFMAN reached with a one-out single. She came around to score on a single by
ALEX MAYFIELD, and a two-base error by an Eagle outfielder.
The next three innings belonged to Oklahoma Christian (19-23, 11-7 HC). The home team pushed across three runs in the fourth inning, two in the fifth, and another run in the sixth inning for a 6-1 lead.
The Hilltopper offense struggled through the middle innings but started to find its form in the seventh. Hoffman notched her second hit of the game with a leadoff triple. St. Edward's got RBI-singles by
KACI OLSON and
KAYLA APPLEBY to cut the lead to 6-3, but ran out of the luck as the game ended in disappointment for the Hilltoppers.
St. Edward's outhit the Eagles, 10-7, but stranded eight baserunners in the loss to Oklahoma Christian.
The Hilltoppers will return home to face UT-Permian Basin in a three-game series at Diane Daniels Field starting Friday. The two teams will square off in a single game at 3:00 p.m. before ending the series with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon.
