rd minute, St. Edward's took a 1-0 lead. Junior
GRANT MOBLEY scored his team-leading third goal of the season. Junior
SAMUEL JACKSON sent a cross into the box that found junior
JULIAN SANCHEZ. The midfielder laid the ball off for Mobley who chipped it over the Maverick goalkeeper into the right corner of the goal for the early advantage. Sanchez and Jackson both picked up assists on the play.
HOW IT HAPPENED

JOSH TAYLOR made it 2-0 in the 53
rd minute when Sanchez again created for the Hilltoppers. The Colorado Mesa keeper mishandled a ball with pressure from Sanchez. After Sanchez collected the ball, he passed back to Taylor who ripped a shot from just outside the penalty box on the left side that found the back of the net for a 2-0 Hilltopper lead.
-Colorado Mesa made a late push and tallied a goal with just under seven minutes to play. Roy Abergil scored his fourth goal of the season on a pass to the front post from Kevin Del Mazo for a one-timer.
-The Hilltopper defense held tight for the remainder of the game, as they did not allow another shot.
HILLTOPPER NOTES
-St. Edward's opens the season with a perfect 4-0 record for the third time in program history. The 2008 team started the season 7-0 and the 1999 squad opened 9-0.
-
GRANT MOBLEY has already surpassed his goal total from 2015 with his third goal of the season. In 2015, the midfielder tallied two goals.
