THE RUNDOWN
SAN ANTONIO –
The St. Edward's University women's soccer team closed the regular season Saturday with a 2-1 win over St. Mary's at Sigma Beta Chi Field as it clinched second place in the Heartland Conference standings.

KELLY ANDRUS gave the Hilltoppers (11-3-4, 9-2-3 HC) an early lead in the 6' as she took a pass from SABRINA CONE and beat the St. Mary's (6-10-2, 3-9-2 HC) goalkeeper on a breakaway. However, the Rattlers tied it up in the 39' on a free-kick goal from Alexia Maldonado.

St. Edward's quickly responded as STEPHANIE EVANS scored the game-winner in the 44'. JENNA LIPSCOMB sent a pass to Evans who finished from five yards out to make it 2-1.

In the second half, both teams combined for three shots. SEU Goalkeeper ELYSE LESCO stopped the Rattlers lone shot on goal as she claimed her second win of the season.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Hilltoppers are 23-22-6 in the all-time series with St. Mary's.
  • St. Edward's has not lost to the Rattlers since 2010.
  • Andrus now has one goal this season. She last score Oct. 29, 2016 against St. Mary's.
