2017 All-Heartland Conference Women's Soccer Teams
WACO, Texas – The St. Edward's University women's soccer team placed six Hilltoppers on the 2017 All-Heartland Conference teams Wednesday on the eve of the Heartland Conference Women's Soccer Championships.
SABRINA CONE and
VIKTORIA MALMROS earned first-team honors, while
INDIA WENTZ,
GRACEN JACKS and
CHIDERA ARIRIGUZO were named to the second team.
JENNA LIPSCOMB rounded out the SEU contingency with a third-team nod.
Cone's first-team honor marks the second of her career as she scored two goals with one assist out of the midfield. She scored the game-winning goal in a 3-0 win over Lubbock Christian on Senior Day.
Malmros also became a two-time, first-team All-Heartland performer as she split the 2017 campaign between the midfield and defense. Malmros was second on the team in scoring with four goals and two assists on the year.
Wentz' second-team nod is the first All-Heartland Conference honor of her career. She scored seven goals with eight assists in the regular season, led the team in scoring and finished fifth in the league in total points.
Jacks earned her fourth All-Heartland Conference honor with her second-team recognition at midfield. The senior from Florida dished out one assist with 16 shots and five on goal this season.
Aririguzo represents SEU's lone freshman on the All-Heartland teams. She helped anchor a defense that produced 11 shutouts in the regular season. Aririguzo scored her only goal of the year in a 1-1 draw at Newman.
Lipscomb earned third-team honors at defender behind five assists in the regular season. The Cedar Park, Texas, native is now a two-time All-Heartland Conference honoree.
As a team, St. Edward's finished fourth in the league in scoring and second in goals-against average on its way to a second-place finish in the regular-season standings. The Hilltoppers produced 32 more corner-kick opportunities than any other team in the Heartland with 139 corner kicks taken.
The No. 2-seeded Hilltoppers open the 2017 Heartland Conference Women's Soccer Championships Thursday against the No. 3-seeded Hillcats of Rogers State at 4 p.m. at Patriot Soccer Field on the campus of Dallas Baptist University. Live stats and video will be available at GoHilltoppers.com.
