THEY SAID IT
SEU head coach Andre Cook reacting to a fast start and a sluggish finish in Saturday's win over CTX…
"I saw that we did what we were supposed to do. We jumped out on them the first 6-7 minutes. I think we got it up to maybe twenty plus points, and then we clearly made it a scrimmage from there. Took our foot off the gas petal; our second team was not very good today … Disappointed in that. We seemed to think that just because we got up by 20 that we were going to breeze through and win by 50. Credit to Concordia, they played a lot of different guys today, but the last 30 minutes or so, unfortunately, looked more like a scrimmage."
SEU head coach Andre Cook on the week ahead; a conference opener on the road and hosting undefeated Kingsville at home …
"I think we are a good team, but every game is some sort of lesson. We should learn today that we can't just show up and win. No matter who we're playing, we have to do certain things. I love our guys, we won't be one of the most talented teams in the league, but when we play together we have a lot of other talents. But, when we just go out there and step on the court and say 'we are really good,' we are not very good. So, lesson learned today. It was a great win against Eastern New Mexico [Friday], it was a great 6-7 minutes today. And, big week with not only starting the league on Thursday, but undefeated Kingsville team in our house next Saturday."
SEU senior guard Sean Watkins on the win over Concordia, and looking ahead to next week …
"We jumped out on them early like we wanted to do. Then, we had a lull a little bit. We didn't have a lot of energy or enthusiasm. They made a little run and they came back, but we stuck together throughout the good and the bad and came out with the win … I think we are going to be good. We have a lot of talented guys and a lot of young guys, so we are learning. Today was a learning experience, but I'm glad we are winning while learning."
