THEY SAID IT
SEU head coach Andre Cook on playing after several days off …
"You know there's going to be some rust when the guys go home for a week. It's hard to get in gyms nowadays in 2017, so you're hoping they just maybe get a couple workouts in. We got them back on the 27th and kind of started the process of coming back. Obviously, this game was strategically placed here before we get ready for next week. That team, they play a lot of DIIs. [Dallas Christian] they shoot a lot of threes, so it's a little unorthodox opponent, but also it's an opponent that we can run our offense and get some shots in, get some quality looks and we did that tonight."
Cook on SEU's long-range game …
"That's what we recruit. We want to make sure, the way we run our offense, that we bring in guys that can shoot the basketball. We spend a lot of time shooting the basketball. We work on it. The guys are in the gym shooting. You can see the results, 17-for-35. Six different guys made threes. We spend a lot of time on it and it is nice to see them go in."
Cook on the team heading back into conference play …
"I feel we're in a good spot. This was a good game for us. We've had lots of meetings, lots of time together this week to kind of make sure we are all on the same page. Make sure our heads are right. We know what's in store for us. We know the great challenges and we'll start the discussions on that tomorrow. What a terrific Dallas Baptist one loss team. They're a fantastic team. They've had our number the last couple of years, so it's going to be a great challenge, but we are looking forward to going to Dallas."
Junior guard Landon Goesling on getting back on the court after the holiday break …
"We came out, like you said, and shot the ball really well. I am sure this week or so has really helped us kind of get guys with fresh legs. We've been banged up a little bit, so a lot of the guys got healthy. We were able to hit some shots early to kind of get us going and I think that's when we're at our best, when we are hitting shots from multiple guys on the team."
Goesling on pulling away in the second half …
"I think we just stuck to the game plan. That was one of the things in our game plan was that these guys are going to make shots, they shoot a lot of threes and they hit them early, but we stuck to the game plan and stuck to our defensive principles. It started to show and pay off in the second half."
