MEGAN HOFFMAN's four hits were not enough Friday as St. Edward's softball dropped single games to No. 12 Central Oklahoma (8-0) and No. 10 St. Mary's (3-0).
Hoffman finished the day 4-for-5 with a double and three singles. St. Edward's (6-7) has lost three straight games.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1 – Central Oklahoma)
- Both teams were hitless through the first two innings of play before UCO pounded out five runs on four hits in the bottom of the third inning.
- The Bronchos scored another run in the fourth and ended the game in the fifth with two more runs for an 8-0, run-rule victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2 – St. Mary's)
- St. Edward's had the first scoring chance in the third inning when sophomore Jenny Stricklin reached on a one-out error.
- After Stricklin advanced to second on a sacrifice, Hoffman singled to shortstop.
- Stricklin was held at third base and then was stranded on a ground out to end the inning.
- Hilltopper starting pitcher LAUREN SLATTEN (2-3) held St. Mary's scoreless for the first 3.2 innings.
- Two walks and a single by the Rattlers in the fourth inning plated the first run of the game and a second run came in to score on a Hilltopper error.
- After St. Mary's registered a run in the fifth inning, St. Edward's tried to rally in the seventh.
- The Hilltoppers loaded the bases with one out but came up empty, ending the game.
HILLTOPPER NOTES
- In game one, OLIVIA BURDICK suffered her first loss of the season, allowing six runs (five earned) on five hits in 4.0 innings of work.
- With Hoffman's four hits, the shortstop lifted her batting average to .303.
- The Hilltoppers allowed no extra-base hits to 10th-ranked St. Mary's.

I'm very pleased with how the catchers called the games, how the pitchers executed, and the defensive play in the outfield. I think these two games were a great learning experience and we need to focus on what we learned in order to grow."
