SAN ANTONIO –
The St. Edward's softball team dropped two games Saturday at the Rattler Invitational. The Hilltoppers fell to Metro State, 13-2 and lost a 6-1 decision to St. Mary's.
St. Edward's (6-9) has lost five games in a row but has a chance to finish the tourney on a high note Sunday when it takes on #12 Central Oklahoma.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1 – Metro State)
- Metro State scored five runs in the first four innings of action.
- St. Edward's got a run back in the both the fifth and sixth innings.
- The Roadrunners put the game away with eight runs in the seventh inning.
- Metro State ended with 13 hits as a team.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2 – St. Mary's)
- St. Edward's got on the board first as sophomore KAYLA APPLEBY picked up an RBI-single in the first inning.
- After that, it was all Rattlers as the home team scored six unanswered runs and kept the Hilltopper offense at bay.
HILLTOPPER NOTES
- Appleby was the only St. Edward's batter to tally hits in both contests. She leads the Hilltoppers with a .370 batting average.
- Appleby also extended her on-base streak to three games.
- Senior LAUREN SLATTEN continues to rack up strikeouts as the righthander has 37 punchouts in 36.0 innings of work.
- St. Edward's has faced six ranked teams this season.
