AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward's softball team came up short on timely hitting as it dropped both games of a doubleheader Tuesday to Tarleton State at Diane Daniels Field.
 
St. Edward's (12-21) scored in the first inning of game one before failing to score the rest of the afternoon. Tarleton State (27-13) ran its winning streak to eight as it held the Hilltoppers to eight hits on the day.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1: Tarleton State 2, St. Edward's 1)
W-Freyman (12-5), L-Burdick (4-4)

• Senior ALEX MAYFIELD singled and stole second base to open the game.
• She came in to score on an RBI-single by sophomore KAYLA APPLEBY.
• The Hilltoppers produced only two hits the rest of the game.
• Tarleton State tied the game in the fourth inning when Kayden Kirkpatrick drew a two-out walk and scored on a triple.
• The TexAnns scored the eventual winning run in the fifth inning with the help of a two-out error by St. Edward's.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2: Tarleton State 2, St. Edward's 0)
W-Withrow (9-5), L-Rex (3-9)

• Tarleton State opened the second game with two runs in the first inning.
• St. Edward's could not capitalize with runners in scoring position the rest of the game.
• The Hilltoppers left seven runners stranded, including a bases-loaded situation in the second inning.

 
HILLTOPPER NOTES

• Mayfield led the Hilltoppers at the plate, going 3-for-6 in the doubleheader.
• Mayfield has a hit in her last three games and stole a base in both contests Tuesday.
• Tarleton State ties the all-time series with St. Edward's, 24-24, and has won five straight matchups.
