AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's knew the importance of their match against Dallas Baptist and left nothing to chance, defeating DBU 3-0 Tuesday evening.
SEU took a critical two point lead at the midway point of the first set, 15-13, and never looked back. Smart placement of attacks and net play defensively allowed the Hilltoppers to extend their lead 23-16. A DBU timeout could not stop SEU as they closed out set one 25-16.
SEU held Dallas Baptist to a -.024 attack percentage in the first set while five Hilltoppers logged at least two kills, led by KATE HENDRIX's four.
Quick attacks in the second set allowed St. Edward's to build a lead again and cruise to the win in set two, 25-18. MADDIE MIKSCH carried the load offensively in the set, posted five kills and a .375 attack percentage.
SEU rode the momentum into the third set, jumping out to a 5-0 lead. No matter what DBU tried the Hilltoppers always had the answer, confidently closing out the set 25-20 and match 3-0.
ALEXA MCANDREW ended the night leading the attack with 11 kills and a .265 attack percentage while MIKAYLA PARKER added 10 while hitting .500 on the night. McNeil posted a team high 13 digs as JULIA HARTLEY led with 21 assists while EMILY TRAN chipped in 20.
St. Edward's improves to 13-10 on the year and 3-4 in Heartland Conference play. They remain at home to face Lubbock Christian on Thursday evening at 7 pm.
