Box Score DALLAS, Texas – When St. Edward's and Dallas Baptist meet up on the pitch you can always expect an exciting match and Thursday's contest was no exception. It took 105 minutes of play to decide a winner as DBU edged out SEU 2-1.
SARAH GUNDERSON scored 52 seconds into the contest to put SEU on top. It is her fifth goal of the season and fourth consecutive game scoring a goal.
The Hilltoppers held on to the 1-0 advantage into halftime despite facing 12 shots thanks in large part to ANNABEL SWEENEY who recorded four saves in the opening 45 minutes.
DBU finally got the equalizer in the 57th minute with a shot from 30 yards out that was just out of Sweeney's reach. Defenses took control of the contest for the remainder of regulation as each team was held to just a handful of shots.
Neither team was able to capitalize on opportunities in the first overtime and Dallas Baptist stole the match with a shot to the upper 90 from six yards out by Delaney Schmidt.
St. Edward falls to 10-4-2 on the year and 10-2-1 in Heartland Conference play. They close the regular season at St. Mary's on Saturday at 1 pm.
