FORT SMITH, Ark. – St. Edward's closed the match with everything they had, defeating Arkansas-Fort Smith 3-2.
UAFS jumped out to an early lead, winning the first set 25-16 before SEU rebounded with an impressive .342 attack percentage in the second set, winning 25-17.
Both teams struggled offensively in the third set but Arkansas-Fort Smith was able to do just enough to pull out the win 25-21.
The Hilltoppers started the fourth set strong, opening on a 4-0 run. The lead swelled to nine, 19-10, and St. Edward's blasted the Lions 25-13.
SEU shot out of the gates and ran to a 10-2 lead, securing the set win in impressive fashion 15-5, to win the match 3-2.
MELISSA MCNEIL led with 17 kills and a .289 attack percentage while
MIKAYLA PARKER added 14 and
LAURA DOOCY 12. Doocy was nearly untouchable with a .632 attack percentage.
EMILY TRAN led with 29 assists while
MORGAN BECKHAM posted 25 digs.
SEU improves to 15-11 on the year and 5-5 in the Heartland Conference. They return home to face Texas A&M International at 7 pm on Thursday, November 1.
