LUBBOCK, Texas –
MIKAYLA PARKER posted 11 blocks on Saturday, 10 assists and one solo, setting a new St. Edward's record for blocks in a three-set match, but the Hilltoppers dropped their Heartland Conference match-up 3-0 against Lubbock Christian.
LCU shot out of the gate at the start, winning the first seven points before SEU got on the board. The Hilltoppers battled back to pull even the score 25-25. After trading points the Chaps closed the set on a 3-0 run to win the extended set 31-29.
St. Edward's started well, leading 13-8 midway through the second set. A well-placed timeout by Lubbock Christian allowed the Chaps to stop the run and kick start their own, taking the lead 19-18. The Hilltoppers were never able to regain the lead as LCU won the second set 25-23.
Lubbock Christian outscored SEU 8-2 midway through the third set, setting the stage for LCU to win the set 25-22 and match 3-0.
KATARINA MENDEZ led offensively with 13 kills while Parker added 10 while hitting .200.
MORGAN BECKHAM posted 27 digs and
JULIA HARTLEY added 17 assists with
EMILY TRAN chipping in 15.
St. Edward's offense just could not get its rhythm and were held to .065 attack percentage in the match to fall to 12-8 overall, 2-2 in conference. They return to play on October 11 at 7 pm to face conference-rival St. Mary's in San Antonio.
