SB Drops Pair of Games to ENMU, Cameron at St. Mary’s Tournament

THE RUNDOWN

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – A pair of Lone Star Conference schools dropped St. Edward's softball to 0-3 on the season with Eastern New Mexico beating the Hilltoppers 8-5 in the early afternoon, followed by Cameron's 10-0 win over SEU Friday evening at the St. Mary's D2 Softball Classic.
 
Kari Rodriguez went 4-for-4 in the loss to the Greyhounds with a pair of doubles and two RBIs, but ENMU used a four-run bottom of the fourth inning to push past SEU. Trailing 8-3 through four innings, the HIlltoppers put up a fight in the top of the fifth with an RBI double from Rodriguez and a run-scoring single from LAUREN GARZA to cut the lead to two. However, SEU was set down in order in the top of the sixth, and Rodriguez's second double came with one out in the top of the seventh, but no further rally would be mustered.
 
Cameron's Madyson Marvulli collected four RBIs, including a 3-run home run in the top of the first while Bethany Hines limited SEU to just one hit in four innings of work in the circle. SEU got singles from SHELBI ROOHMS and VALERIE BRANT in the bottom of the fifth, but the Hilltoppers could do no further damage.
 
HIGHLIGHTS VS. ENMU
• Kari Rodriguez set a career-high with four hits in a 4-for-4 performance at the plate.
• Rodriguez tied her career-best with two doubles.
• Rodriguez collected the fifth multiple-hit game of her career and fourth career game to have multiple RBIs.
SAMI WILLIAMS started her 70th career game Friday vs. ENMU and her single in the fifth was the 60th hit of her career.
LAUREN GARZA's debut in an SEU uniform ended with a 2-for-4 performance with a run scored and two RBIs.
MEGAN HOFFMAN went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI; Hoffman's two runs scored tied a career high.

MEGAN HOFFMAN, VALERIE BRANT and SHELBI ROOHMS all recorded singles in the loss for SEU
KEELY FRAZIER struck out four batters in three innings of relief and allowed only two runs.
 
STAT OF THE GAME I
4 – Kari Rodriguez's four hits in the loss to ENMU Friday doubled her previous career single-game best and was the first four-hit game for an SEU player since KAYLA APPLEBY and ASHLEY NASSY each had four hits vs. Newman April 22, 2017.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
The Hilltoppers conclude the St. Mary's DII College Classic Saturday taking on Texas Woman's at 2:30 p.m. and will close the four-game tournament vs. Fort Hays State at 4:45 p.m.
