Brooks Notches 50th Career Win as WTEN Blank McMurry and Hardin-Simmons

THE RUNDOWN
ABILENE, Texas –
Head Coach Kendall Brooks turns in her 50th career win with St. Edward's women's tennis team as they beat up on McMurry and Hardin-Simmons, 9-0 in Abilene.
 
The Hilltoppers (4-0) swept their way through the competition as they took down the War Hawks (0-3) and the Cowgirls (0-4) without relinquishing a set. Newcomer FANNI NOVAK picked up a pair of convincing wins in both matches, as well as true freshman ISABELA YOUNG who took advantage of her first opportunity in the lineup by securing two singles and doubles wins Friday.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
• Coach Brooks tallies 50 wins in five seasons in the second week of the 2018 campaign.
• BETH HAYWARD improves to 3-0 in singles with a win vs. McMurry's Samantha Ritz; she is now 9-1 in her last ten matches.
• ELISA GUILLEN extends her singles match win streak to six after defeating McMurry's Zayra Gomez in singles, 6-1, 6-0 and Hardin-Simmons' Grace Masonheimer, 6-0, 6-0.
• ISABELA YOUNG claimed her first collegiate win with a 6-0, 6-3 win over McMurry's Neah Garza.
• Guillen and LAURA GALVAN improve to 3-0 in the spring and 6-2 overall in doubles after an 8-1 win on court one vs. McMurry.
• Hayward and VALENTINA MARTINEZ improve to 3-0 after an 8-2 win vs. Hardin-Simmons
• SEU improved record to 8-1 this season in doubles.

Coach Brooks on today's doubleheader…
"Today was a good day for us to continue to get more matches under our belt in an effort to get more match tough as we head into our DII schedule. Everyone got to contribute in one way or another today and I was pleased with how those players stepped up."
 
Brooks on achieving 50 career wins with SEU…
"It goes by fast that's for sure, but I feel fortunate to have had a great group of players over the years that worked hard for those wins. I'm just their No. 1 fan most of the time."
