THE RUNDOWN
AUSTIN, Texas –No. 17 St. Edward's women's tennis team got back in the winning column by defeating Tarleton State, 7-2 Saturday at the Austin Tennis Academy. LAURA GALVAN, ELISA GUILLEN, MARISSA WILLIAMS and PAOLA CARPIO all went 2-0 on the day for the Hilltoppers.

The Hilltoppers (18-2) grabbed the momentum early by sweeping the Texanns (5-5) in doubles play and remained hot entering singles competition. Guillen dominated TSU's Chrystalynn Shirley on court No. 6, 6-0, 6-0, and Carpio took care of Sherine Salem in the third singles flight 7-5, 6-1 to clinch the match. Both teams would split the final four matches and the home team would extend their winning streak vs. Tarleton State to three matches.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
• LAURA GALVAN recorded her 65^th career doubles win.
• Galvan defeated TSU's Sud on singles court No. 2, 6-4, 1-6, 12-10.
• BETH HAYWARD logged her 35^th career doubles win.
• ELISA GUILLEN recorded her 20^th doubles win of the season.
• Guillen extends her singles winning streak to 17 matches and post a 14-0 mark this spring.
• PAOLA CARPIO registered her 20^th singles victory this season and her 10^th this spring.
• MARISSA WILLIAMS defeated Shelby Fillingame 7-5, 6-1.

"Today was a must-win match for us with the way that regional rankings go, and I felt like the girls played with a sense of urgency from the very beginning. We got off to a great start in doubles on every court and the energy carried over into singles. We played solid tennis today all the way down the lineup and competed extremely well. It's nice to be back in the win column as we move forward towards more big matches."
