No. 16-Ranked Tarleton State Pushes Past SB in Both Games of DH

THE RUNDOWN

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – No. 16-ranked Tarleton State reach 40 wins Tuesday with 15-5 and 17-2 run-rule wins over St. Edward's at the Tarleton State Softball Complex.
 
In game one, the TexAnns (40-8) scored six runs apiece in the first and third innings to key TSU's win and four different players drove in two runs or more. SEU (5-39) scored four runs in the third inning highlighted by a two-run single from SARA MACHADO and SHELBI ROOHMS hit her first homer of the season in the top of the fifth.
 
Tarleton State continued the offensive barrage in the second game with 17 runs on 15 hits and Destiny Crumpley led the charge with two doubles and a home run to accompany five RBIs. KATHRYN CONNELLY and KLARISSA GARCIA each had an RBI apiece in SEU's only offensive output.
 
GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
• SHELBI ROOHMS hit her third career home run and first of the season in the top of the fifth inning.
• KAYLA APPLEBY picked up her fifth multiple-hit game of the season (26th of career) with a pair of singles in four at bats, and she also scored a run.
• SHELBY JANDA had an RBI single in the contest, and it was her 50th career hit.
• SARA MACHADO had her first multi-RBI game of the season (2nd of career) when her single in the top of the third drove in two.
• Kari Rodriguez's 2-for-3 performance at the plate gave her eight multi-hit games on the season (12 in her career), and she scored a run.
 
GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
• SARA MACHADO was 2-for-2 at the plate and has eight games this season with more than one hit.
• Kari Rodriguez extended both her on-base and hitting streaks to nine games with a third-inning double.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
The Hilltoppers play host to Newman in a 3-game Heartland Conference series Thursday and Friday in Austin at Diane Daniels Field opening the series Thursday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
