AUSTIN, Texas – A day after her two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning forced extra inning in an eventual walk-off victory over Newman, St. Edward's sophomore first baseman Kari Rodriguez struck again Friday to close the series with a walk-off double, giving the Hilltoppers a 2-1 win over Newman at Diane Daniels Field.
KAYLA APPLEBY forced a doubleheader split for SEU Thursday with an RBI walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning, and Friday it was Rodriguez who delivered the game-winning hit with her 11
th double of the season off the heightened wall in left field, missing a home run by less than a foot to bring home
SARA MACHADO for the win.
The victory gave St. Edward's (7-40, 6-21) four wins over Newman (13-36, 7-21) in the five-game Heartland Conference slate this season.
KEELY FRAZIER threw seven innings allowing just one run in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI single from the Jets' Erin Jankiewicz. After recording an out in the top of the sixth, Frazier was lifted and
REAGAN CARTER came in relief. However, Carter loaded the bases with three consecutive walks, Frazier re-entered and shut the door on the Newman rally getting the final two outs of the inning on three pitches and leaving all three Newman base runners stranded.
In the bottom of the seventh with score still knotted at one apiece,
SARA MACHADO hit a double off the wall in left-centerfield,
ASHLEY NASSY bunted her over to third base on a sacrifice in which she reached on an error, and then Rodriguez doubled home the run for the win.
Frazier picked up her second win in as many games and didn't walk a batter while scattering four hits in seven innings of work.

SARA MACHADO hit 2-for-3 at the plate including a double and she scored the game-winning run; it was Machado's ninth multiple-hit game of the season.
