AUSTIN, Texas – St. Mary's used a three-run second inning to push past St. Edward's 4-2 at Diane Daniels Field Friday in Heartland Conference softball action.
The Rattlers (30-19, 16-7) took advantage of Hilltoppers' (7-43, 6-22) only error in the second inning and scored three unearned runs to build a 4-1 lead. Kari Rodriguez's 10
th home run of the season, a solo shot for SEU in the bottom of the third, would be the final run production from the home team.
The Hilltoppers mounted a rally in the bottom of the seventh with two runners on after back-to-back walks with one out, but St. Mary's starter Staci Johns forced pinch hitter
SHELBI ROOHMS to line out into a double play to end the contest. Johns scattered seven hits in the complete-game victory for the Rattlers to earn her 15
th win of the season.
KEELY FRAZIER and
REAGAN CARTER combined to allow just one earned run and Carter threw the final five innings in scoreless relief.
HIGHLIGHTS
• Kari Rodriguez recorded her 10
th multi-hit game of the season and scored the 30
th run of her career with her 2-for-2 performance at the plate.
• Rodriguez's solo home run in the bottom of the third was her 10
th of the season, which tied for seventh place on SEU's single-season record book for most home runs.

KAYLA APPLEBY's double in the bottom of the third inning was the 125
th hit of her career.

REAGAN CARTER pitched five innings of scoreless relief, struck out four and only allowed three hits.
