AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's Volleyball closed the 2018 Hilltopper Classic in impressive fashion, defeating Eastern New Mexico 3-1 and Purdue Northwest 3-0.
MATCH 1: SEU 3 – ENMU 1
A scrappy Eastern New Mexico team took the Hilltoppers by surprise to open day two, winning the first set 25-20 while posting a .405 team attack percentage in the set.
St. Edward's returned to form in the second set to post a .206 attack percentage as a team while holding ENMU to just .030. The Hilltoppers spread the ball around offensively, getting everyone involved in the action and took the set 25-18.
KATE HENDRIX posted five kills in the third set to lead SEU to a 25-18 win to go up 2-1 and closed out the match with a 4-0 run in the fourth set, winning 25-22 to win the match.
St. Edward's hit .243 for the match and was led offensively by Hendrix with 11 kills while ALEXA MCANDREW added ten. MORGAN BECKHAM had 14 digs and MELISSA MCNEIL chipped in 11 as MIKAYLA PARKER posted five blocks in the win.
MATCH 2: SEU 3 - PNW 0
St. Edward's was nearly untouchable in their final match of the tournament as their offense fired on all cylinders right from the start and the defense was impenetrable.
SEU held the Pride to -.036 attack percentage and never allowed more than 17 points in a single set. Conversely, the Hilltoppers hit .271 with McAndrew and Hendrix leading with ten each. EMILY TRAN notched 14 assists while Beckham added 16 digs. NICOLE PETERS was a wall up front, logging an impressive eight blocks.
McAndrew was selected MVP of the tournament while Beckham earned All-Tournament honors at the libero position.
The wins improve SEU to 6-2 on the year and they return to action next weekend at the Newman Invitational in Wichita, Kansas. The Hilltoppers open against Ouachita Baptist on Thursday at 7 pm.
