AUSTIN, Texas - St. Edward's volleyball was edged out in five sets Thursday, falling 25-20, 25-27, 25-20, 20-25, 15-13 to Texas A&M Kingsville.
The Javelinas used an 8-0 run midway through the first set to take a 15-9 lead that would last them until the end of the set.
NICOLE PETERS served a six-point-run early in the second set to put SEU up 7-2, but TAMUK pulled even 23-23 and seemed to have the set in hand. The Hilltopper blockers had other plans as they closed the set with three straight blocking assists to win the set.
Set three was deadlocked at 18-18 and the Javelinas took control, ending the set on a 7-2 run to go up two sets to one.
St. Edward's lead almost the entirety of the fourth set while holding TAMUK to a .083 attack percentage.
EMILY TRAN had seven digs in the set to go along with her four assists to lead the way defensively.
Texas A&M Kingsville was the first to eight in the fifth and final set, but SEU responded and continued to fight. Neither team could manage more than one point advantage until TAMUK secured the win 15-13.
St. Edward's was held to just .078 hitting percentage and was led by
MADDIE MIKSCH who recorded 16 kills and a .214 attack percentage.
JULIA HARTLEY had a team high 21 assists while
MORGAN BECKHAM led with 25 digs.
MIKAYLA PARKER made her presence known at the net all night, logging two solo blocks and five blocking assists.
SEU falls to 10-6 on the year while TAMUK improves to 8-5. The Hilltoppers have a much deserved off weekend before opening Heartland Conference play on Thursday, September 27 at 7 pm as they host Newman.
