KINGSVILLE, Texas - The St. Edward's women's tennis team is making the most of their fall season, getting stronger with each competition. The Hilltoppers went 12-8 in singles play and 5-7 in doubles over the weekend at the Texas A&M Kingsville Quad, facing St. Mary's and Texas A&M Kingsville.
PAOLA CARPIO and
KATE MALAZONIA went undefeated in singles action on the weekend. Malazonia remains undefeated in singles play as a Hilltopper, making quick work of her first two matches, defeating Phonephathep Philavong of TAMUK 6-2, 6-3 and Idoia Huerta of STMU 6-3, 6-4, before eventually taking down Lisa Carvajal of TAMUK 6-3, 2-6, 11-9. Carpio took down Ashley Penshorn of STMU 6-3, 7-5 and then breezed through her final two matches, defeating TAMUK's Stephanie Baerman 6-2, 6-3 and Victoria Romanovskaia 6-2, 6-4.
The Hilltoppers have been ramping up for their next competition and are set to make waves at the ITA Regional this weekend in Wichita Falls, Texas at the MSU Tennis Center beginning Friday, September 28.
