WICHITA FALLS, Texas - St. Edward's dropped all four round of 16 singles matches on Saturday but have a doubles team advancing to the consolation draw final.
#4 Bethan Hayward and
VALENTINA MARTINEZ were both defeated 6-2, 6-2 in their respective matches while
KATE MALAZONIA and
PAOLA CARPIO were engaged in long matches that eventually did not go their way. Malazonia fell to #3 Shviadok 6-7, 7-6, 6-3 while Carpio fell to #2 Maddy Coffman 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
Carpio/Malazonia teamed up to make a run in double play, however, defeating Mary/Gray 8-6 in the consolation draw quarterfinals and Tristan/Montalvo 8-4 in the semifinals.
The duo will compete in Sunday's finals.
