AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward's Men's Basketball team posted 48 second half points en route to a 76-57 win over Dallas Baptist Thursday evening to move to 14-1 on the year and remain perfect in Heartland Conference action (3-0).
ASHTON SPEARS kicked off the scoring with a soaring dunk after a LUCAS DORIA steal on the first DBU possession. Despite the thrilling start, SEU struggled to find their rhythm in the opening frame.
St. Edward's trailed by one, 29-28, at halftime after shooting an uncharacteristically low 28.6% from the floor and 25% from three point range.
SEU regrouped in the locker room and come out with a 14-6 run in the opening seven minutes to lead 42-35.
Back-to-back Hilltopper three's with just under eight minutes to play gave St. Edward's an important 12-point lead, 54-42. With every possession the SEU offense got hotter as their lead quickly ballooned to 21, 65-44, with five minutes remaining thanks in large part to Spears who drained two threes from the right wing.
SEU was never threatened in the final seven minutes and held Dallas Baptist to just seven second half field goals.
Spears led all scorers with 22 points while COREY SHERVILL chipped in 21. DORIAN LOPEZ posted his second double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 boards. AUGUST HAAS was just two points and two rebounds shy of the triple-double, ending with eight rebounds and eight points with 13 assists.
St. Edward's remains at home and in Heartland Conference action to face Oklahoma Christian for a 3 pm tip.
