MAYA SMALLS was selected as the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Smalls has been a important player in the Hilltoppers' current five-match winning streak. Last week, she helped the 'Toppers to a sweep of Dallas Baptist and a five-set win over then-No. 23 Tarleton State.
The San Antonio native posted a season-high nine block assists to go along with 10 kills, a .500 hitting percentage and two aces in the three-set victory against the Patriots. Two days later, she hit .353 with six winners, two blocks and a pair of service aces in the upset win of the Texans.
The Hilltoppers return to action Friday at Cameron. The LSC contest will begin at 5:30 p.m. in Lawton, Oklahoma.
