SILVER CITY, N.M. – The St. Edward's offense and defense were ready to go as the Hilltopper easily handled Western New Mexico 3-0 in Lone Star Conference action Saturday afternoon.
St. Edward's opened the first set on a 5-0 run and never looked back, quickly posting an insurmountable lead to win the opening set 25-10.
It was tight early in the second set but the Hilltoppers outscored WNMU 10-3 midway through the frame to take a 15-8 lead that made all the difference. With a comfortable lead in hand, St. Edward's won the second set 25-16 and third set 25-20.
The Hilltoppers hit .235 on the afternoon and were led by
ALEXA MCANDREW who posted 10 kills.
KATARINA MENDEZ posted eight kills with a .375 attack percentage.
EMILY TRAN and
MADISON HEALD continue to run the offensive, posting 15 and 13 assists respectively. McAndrew also led defensively with 10 digs.
SEU improves to 8-6 on the year and 3-3 in conference action. They return home to face Texas A&M-Kingsville on Friday at 6 p.m.
