AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's men's basketball posted their largest-margin of victory thus far in the season, defeating Schreiner University 106-56 Saturday afternoon.
SEU put on a shooting clinic in the early part of the game and led by 18, 29-11, midway through the frame. A 13-4 run over four minutes saw the Hilltoppers push their lead to 30, 50-20, with 3:38 remaining in the half. SEU went into the break with a 28-point lead, 50-22.
St. Edward's was never threatened in the second-half as their lead ballooned to 42, 72-30, just six minutes in on a three by RYAN GARZA. SEU led by as many as 54 in the second half while closing out the win.
Six Hilltoppers scored in double figures, led by COREY SHERVILL and DORIAN LOPEZ who had 17 points each. JAKE KRAFKA and Garza had 13-points each while LUKE PLUYMEN added 12 and AUGUST HAAS 11. Lopez and Garza led on the boards with seven rebounds each as SEU out-rebounded the Mountaineers 49-33. SEAN PHILLIPS posted a team-high eight assists with Haas leading with five steals.
St. Edward's improves to 5-0 on the season and return to action on Thursday, November 21 to open Lone Star Conference action. They face UT Tyler at 7:30 pm in Tyler, Texas.
