KINGSVILLE, Texas – St. Edward's closed the regular season with an exclamation point, defeating Texas A&M-Kingsville 3-1 to further solidify their division championship.
SEU opened the match strong, hitting .333 as a team while holding TAMUK to just .063 to win the first set handily, 25-16.
The Hilltoppers matched the effort offensively in the second set but the Javalinas managed to steal the win, 27-25, due to three service errors and three ball handling errors.
St. Edward's was able to return to form, however, and kicked up their defense a notch to win the third and fourth sets, 25-20, 25-22.
MADDIE MIKSCH led the attack with 16 kills and just one error for an impressive .625 attack percentage. ALEXA MCANDREW continued her hard-hitting weekend with 15 kills and a .316 attack percentage. MADISON HEALD did a superb job of running the offense, leading with 31 assists while EMILY TRAN posted 24. NIKKI GRANT had 17 digs to lead the Hilltoppers defensively.
SEU improves to 18-8 on the year and 13-5 in the Lone Star Conference. With the divisional win the Hilltoppers earn a first round bye in the LSC Championship and will await their match-up following first round matches on Tuesday, November 19.
