TYLER, Texas – St. Edward's ended the first quarter on a 17-5 run and outscored UT Tyler 18-8 in the second quarter on their way to a 64-51 win to open Lone Star Conference play. SEU remains undefeated on the season at 5-0 and start the year at 1-0 in the LSC.
 
SEU maintained the momentum into the second half and started on a 10-4 run to lead by 20, 47-27, with 3:38 remaining in the third.
 
The Patriots pulled within 12 points, 58-46, with just over four minutes to play, but a well-timed timeout by Head Coach J.J. Riehl refocused the Hilltoppers and they closed the game from the free throw line.
 
MARYAM WILCHER led St. Edward's with 14 points while Haley Blankenship added 13. SEU was held to just 34.8 percent from the floor but were able to turn up the heat defensively to hold UTT to 29.6 percent from the floor and forced the Patriots into 23 turnovers.
 
St. Edward's will put their unbeaten record on the line with their toughest opponent to date, facing Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday in Commerce, Texas. Tipoff is set for 6 pm.
